People love to eat. All kinds of people love to eat, not just Chinese people, Japanese people, Mexican people, or American people. For that matter, many of our foodstuffs are classified according to different cuisines based on the numerous different cultures of the world. There are Chinese, Italian, French and, my personal favorite, Japanese cuisines.

What do we need when we eat? We are all familiar with the digestive system. But before the food reaches our stomachs, it enters our body via our mouth. What happens in the mouth? We chew the food with our teeth. The teeth are the strongest and hardest part of the human body. They are even than our bones and for good reason, as many of the things we put in our mouth are hard as well, and before entering our stomachs, they better be fit and ripe for digestion. The teeth are made of the same minerals as our bones, as they are made primarily of calcium. That is not to say that teeth are bones though. Unlike bones, the teeth are made of layers upon layers of multiple tissues of varying degrees of density and hardness.

Apart from the fact that we use our teeth for eating, the teeth are also part of the structure in the mouth that is exhibited for other things. For instance, when you grin, are not our teeth visible to the outside? Varying degrees of emotions are exhibited when we bare our teeth. A full bearing of the teeth while clenched can signify different degrees of rage and anger. The teeth are also a weapon, but not to the same extent as when animals use them, however. Some martial arts propose their use when all bets are off.

Humans are blessed with having two sets of teeth. The baby teeth are the first set, which is replaced by our adult teeth during the normal progression of aging. This second set of teeth is permanent and is no longer replaced naturally when by some unfortunate circumstance lost.

Now we have established what teeth are as well as their importance. Precisely because of their importance is it imperative that we take care of them. By going to the trouble to find a dentist, we ensure the survival and care of our teeth. The first way that teeth are cared for is through regular cleaning. Cleaning can be achieved through regular toothbrushing, but studies show that regular check-ups with the dentist are the optimum method of cleaning one’s teeth. Not all parts of the tooth are cleaned by regular brushing a dental trip negates this inadequacy. This can also prevent cavities, a scourge of good dental hygiene. Cavities are, simply put, the holes in the tooth that spring up due to a lack of dental hygiene, bacteria in the mouth that metabolize, and food stuck on the teeth. Maintaining a good schedule of appointments with your dentist prevents the probability of problems like this from occurring. It is extremely important that you find a dentist the health of your teeth depends on it.
