If you were born before September 2, 1929 then you can get a gratis passport if you are British. passports over 75 years old beginning after September 2004 will be free and issued for 10 years. If you were born before September 2, 1929 and purchased a passport after September 19, 2004 you are eligible for a refund of your passport fees. I guess they did this to make it easier on the elderly to travel since most are on a fixed income anyway. In my opinion when a person gets over 75 years old there should not be no fees for anything government issued since most are on fixed income anyway. Most of these people have worked hard all their lives so that when I retire like and enjoy themselves but with as many they start having problems with their health and that starts taken their money that they could be used for other things so I feel that anything that has government fees should no longer be charged against people over 75 and they should also receive free health care and medications.
