The Safety Measures Taken At Our Workplace

posted on 8 January 2012

At my place of employment we have to wear high visibility overalls and hardhats at all times. If we are seen without it we face huge penalties. Recently, as a gutter installer for houses, we now must use scaffolding around the entire house to do the job, where as we used to simply use ladders. As a result our prices have doubled, and I am finding myself without any work. In my time in the industry I don't recall any time that somebody was injured. Without a regular income I am finding it difficult to meet my requirements as a father, and a husband. If governments are to insist on safety precautions they should subsidise the cost. Several of my colleagues have already left the industry, now with unskilled jobs working for very low wages. I fear that I will have to do the same soon. Perhaps it's sometimes not better to be safe than sorry.

Please Stop Throwing Rubbish on to the Railway Track

posted on 29 August 2011

My biggest clean up operation was in full swing over the weekend. I had decided to pick up the rubbish by the railway as there was a lot of material there that has been disposed of that could easily be recycled. I dislike the thought of rubbish ending up in landfill which can be extremely harmful to the environment. Having sold bunded diesel tanks in the past, I know the power of recycling and making the most of materials. People should stop throwing rubbish mindlessly out of windows as they could easily dispose of the rubbish in the recycle bin. I have accumulated close to two thousand cans. Most of them look like they have been there for close to a decade. I found lots of plastic bottles which were decaying in the hot sun. I spent 6 hours on Saturday and Sunday cleaning up. It was hard work but I feel I have made a difference. Today I went up to see for myself and it looks so much better. I have made it my duty to undertake a clean up operating once a month to keep the railway track area nice and tidy. The hard work is well worth the effort.
